Magnificent Desolation

My first childhood memory is sitting on my dad's lap watching a NASA mission unfold on TV. I've always had a fondness of the brave men and women of space exploration, and I'm also fond of this picture by tiler. The MOC isn't particularly fancy or spectacular, but it's clean, well designed and evocative of the lunar rover. But this is all about the excellent photo. The composition, lighting and editing are great, but the subtle touches like the registration marks and the reflection of the astronaut in the helmet truly make it.

KG2.5 - ARC Omelet

This was a pleasant sight to wake up to this morning. It's been a while since we've seen a MOC from lights, and this cheery little odd-shaped ship is a treat to the eyes. The side-opening cockpit is way cool and it looks just as awesome docked as it does flying.

"Hatchet"

This little baby is called the T.A.H. MK II "Hatchet" Multipurpose Tactical Construction Hardsuit, which is a bit of a mouthful so I'll just call it awesome. The color combinations and construction are very clean, it really looks like an official set. I love the slight asymmetry to it as well, gives it a more utility feel.

On a day like today, when all Americans bathe in the glory of corporate sponsorship (it's Super Bowl Sunday) It seems fitting that this MOC should pop up in my Flickr feed. Builder toms_h@rt shows us just how enterprising GARC racers fund their sport, and catch the spectator's eyes.

Blacktron Brood Stalker

Blacktron MOCs are rare anymore, especially ones as cool as this offering from -=Steebles=-. The mechanical linkages look real enough to make this thing walk. And all black or mostly black models are notoriously hard to photograph (no really, don't do it to yourself!) especially in such a way they can be seen against a black background, this is well done.

A Gun In Space

The USS Sulaco from the 1986 classic Aliens is one of my favorite all-time ships. Syd Mead's original design for the ship, while still cool, was a little bulbous and not very fitting for the Colonial Marines' bad ass persona. Then director James Cameron did a rough sketch of what's been called a "gun in space" and the rest is history. This MOC by Si-MOCs captures it's iconic shape perfectly in small form.

Spacastle

Space and Castle, two of the most iconic LEGO themes ever created, have always been in stark contrast  with each other. Space has been about squeaky clean starships with smooth lines and rocket boosters. Castle, on the other hand, has focused on the nitty gritty sword-and-sorcery struggle between the king and his subjects against some evil faction bent on their destruction. The two have never been crossed before. That is until today! Paul Vermeesch has rocketed the castle theme from planet earth and dropped it on some unknown planet creating a vision of what late-middle-ages on an alien planet would look like.

Extraction

The people behind the book LEGO Space: Building The Future continue to amaze and please us with enticing little shots that didn't make the cut. I was privileged enough to experiment with photographing some of the fabulous MOCs in this book, and I truly wish I could have been there for all the shoots. If you don't have this book yet you're missing out.

LL-918 Halcyon

Gotta love some Neo Classic Space mech action, and this fit the bill. This mini mech by  -=Steebles=- strikes a perfect balance of old and new, and sports some menacing weaponry. Looks like it's got some great pose-ability as well.

WIFFY

Recently we've had a little gopher problem at my house. Several times in the past few weeks we've had to move some small piles of dirt from the front yard because of those burrowing little buggers. Seems like the perfect job for Mr. WIFFY here. So hurry science guys, I want a WIFFY to move mounds!

The Creature

It would appear those infamous Blacktron baddies are dabbling in genetic engineering. But considering how cool this creature by Rogue Bantha is, I'm kinda OK with it. Check out the multiple layers of spherical awesome that make up the head, amazing.

R.U.D.O.L.P.H.

The team behind LEGO Space: Building The Future would like to wish everyone a very merry Christmas. And what better way to deliver the message than a high tech sled pulled by a robotic reindeer? It's the Rapid Uni-Directional Ordnance and Light Personnel Hauler! Ho ho ho!

This is officially the first post on BrickNerd ever sparked by the name of the MOC. Yes, it's a bitchin' ship from Si-MOCs, with cool color combinations and styling. But you could sell these to outlanders, spice traders and smugglers based on the name alone.

L Fighter

I have to admit, the first thing I thought when I saw this MOC by Lego Junkie (after the initial "ooh" of course) was with a different color scheme and some modifications it could be Santa's Boot Fighter. I guess I've got Christmas on the brain.

Over the past few weeks the creative powerhouses behind LEGO Space: Building The Future have been treating us to unused shots from the book. Let me point that out again, these epic and incredible shots didn't make the cut. It's a testament to the quality of this book.

Podracer Engine

There were very few redeeming values in Episode 1 (none of which make Jar Jar tolerable) but one was the pod race. In fact I remember going to see it again in a theater near me and getting up and leaving after the race. This engine by Nannan Z captures the essence of the racers themselves, power and simplicity. Just two bigass engines with a seat attached, that's racing.

L Fighter

Our pals at FBTB have been running a really cool contest, Alphabet Fighters, and entries are looking awesome. This entry by :VolumeX: is one of my favorites so far. I don't know how at home in the Star Wars universe this is, but I like it!

Vertifin

Novvember is drawing to a close, but Vic Vipers are still popping up. This one by lego_nabii challenges the normal proportions to great effect. That forward facing canopy and rounded fuselage is pretty nifty too.

Wibbly Wobbly Vic Viper

On this, the 50th anniversary of Dr. Who, which falls in the month of Novvember, what could be more appropriate than a TARDIS Vic Viper? Sure it's bigger inside, but did you ever imagine it transformed into a fighter?
