Chess Anyone?

I would be remiss in my geek responsibilities were I not to post this (it's sort of required). The picture could be better, but I'm sure Mr Spock would find this MOC as irresistible as I do. I'm inspired to build a full size version with the pieces, but I have no time, so I'll leave it to you readers.

Speeder Bike With Sidecar

This is a cool little build. Reminds me of the twin pod cloud car, only not lame. Yes, I called a Star Wars ship lame, deal with it. Great use of the stretcher holder as a roll cage and a nifty, almost retro aesthetic.  

RL14 Research Lab

This has got a great old school space vibe to it. It's hard to call it Neo Classic because of the color scheme, but I think Disco86 might be breaking new ground here. It's got an interesting back story too, always fun to see a builder put their MOC in context. I love the greenhouses, and that ship is pretty cool too. Nice work Paul.

Myrmidon Class Missile Boat

It doesn't get much cleaner than this. Crisp photography, simple but effective lighting, expert editing, slick background and tasteful graphics. It's a sweet MOC too.  Nice work John Stephens.

The Exodus

I once moved across the country with a U-haul, a station wagon, two guys and two barfy dogs. We did it in two days, just in time to start production on a horrible movie. So I can only imagine what it's like to be on a colonist ship, endlessly trekking across the cosmos. Of course I also just spent three days on the Disney Dream, so if there's a movie theater or two on this baby (and all you can eat ice cream) count me in. Nice build Tim, she's lovely.

Jumpin' Jupiter!

This is a seriously cool commission for the CNES (French space agency) by Damien Labrousse. It even has a working screen with a launch countdown and a sound system. How freaking cool is that?

A Black Beauty

Seeing Der Steinadler navigating this small asteroid field I can hear the dramatic music in my head. It's like the illegitimate love child of Doc Brown's flying steam train and Jabba's sail barge, with a slick black paint job. I wanna swoosh it.

Mako Class Torpedo Cruiser

This fine ship by Flickr user halfbeak is a great example of how an excellent model doesn't have to have a huge part count or super elaborate design. It's clean, appealing and slick. Check out the use of droid legs as struts and the graduated cylinders on the engine nacelles.

Skinsuit

This ship's a beauty. Who would have thought brown, white and gold would go together so well? And the photography is top notch, which on a model like this isn't easy. See how the light plays on the canopy and contours the guns on front? What would otherwise have been very difficult to see against the dark background is instantly recognizable.  

GERI

No time to say much about this, my plane is about to board. It was just too cool not to share. I love a MOC that's difficult to judge scale on, it means some seriously cool building took place. It's a micro, but you wouldn't know it.

Neo Classic Space Classic

Here at brickNerd we don't just blog the latest creations, we also celebrate influential MOCs from days gone by. Like this awesome reinterpretation of the classic Galaxy Explorer by Pete Reid. The dimensions of the distance to which my mind was blown when I first laid eyes on this had to be measured by satellite.

Normandy SR2

Ben Caulkins has done it again. The curves, detail, lettering and finish work on this piece are all outstanding. It took Ben seven months to complete this, but it was time well spent. Art can't be rushed, and there is no doubt about it, this is art. 

UNES Odyssey 21

Holy cow! This ship is jaw dropping. It's only by looking carefully you can actually see the scale. With excellent use of greeblies and a fantastic balance of broad and fine strokes it defies logic. I can just imagine it cinematically lit, gracefully making it's way to a waiting nearby moon. Awesome work Kyle.

Sendak Space Lines

Wow, this isn't fair, two astonishing MOCs in the same week. Mark Stafford, you are a force to be reckoned with.  This ship is amazing, the SNOT lettering and color detailing are...wow...just wow.

Dragonflower Patroller

This is an amazing MOC by one of my favorite builders, LEGO's own Mark Stafford. This is inspired by Peter Elson's artwork from the Galactic Encounters book: Settlers in Space: The Fight for Survival on Distant Worlds. Just look at that use of color and brick-built detailing, stunning.
